Cooke Cablevision customers in Sitka, Alaska, had access to 27 channels in December of 1987. Cooke was a cable television services provider founded and owned by late Canadian-American businessman Jack Kent Cooke (1912-1997), who also once owned the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (winning an NBA championship in 1972), the Washington Redskins (now Commanders) of the National Football League, winning three Super Bowls (XVII, XXII and XXVI) under Hall of Fame head coach (and also Hall of Fame NASCAR team owner) Joe Gibbs and founded the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League. Cooke sold the teams and the cable company off and all assets pertaining to Cooke Cablevision are now owned by Comcast, which operates as Xfinity. Today, the city is serviced by a local company, GCI based out of Anchorage. (Source: TVTV.us)
